European integration мust not tolerate the manipulation of the truth!

The Republic of North Macedonia is increasingly pursuing a political course that not only slows down but effectively blocks its own path to membership in the European Union. This is happening at a time when EU enlargement is once again on the agenda, and the geopolitical environment requires stability and predictability in the Balkans.

Unfulfilled Commitments and Loss of Trust
At the core of the problem lies the failure to fulfill the commitments undertaken under the so-called “French proposal” – a framework that made it possible to unblock the process between Bulgaria and North Macedonia. One of the key elements of this framework is the inclusion of Bulgarians as a constituent people in the country’s constitution. The delay and politicization of this issue are not merely a domestic political problem – they undermine trust between partners and call into question Skopje’s genuine commitment to European values. The EU operates based on agreements, the rule of law, and the protection of human rights – principles that cannot be applied selectively.

Repression and Symbolic Actions
Alongside institutional inaction, there are worrying signals of pressure on people with Bulgarian identity. The closure of and attacks against cultural institutions such as the Bulgarian Cultural Club “Ivan Mihailov” are symptoms of a deeper problem – an inability or unwillingness to guarantee fundamental civil rights. Such actions not only contradict European standards but also send a negative signal to Brussels that reforms are superficial rather than structural.

External Noise Instead of Real Reform
Instead of focusing on meeting concrete criteria, the current government in Skopje is investing significant resources in international campaigns and lobbying. These efforts are often accompanied by manipulative rhetoric that presents the situation as a bilateral dispute rather than a matter of fulfilling clear European requirements. Figures such as Thomas Waitz and other European representatives are frequently drawn into this communication strategy, creating a sense of a “double game” and undermining trust in the objectivity of the European process.

Who Benefits from the Delay?
Although presented as a defense of national interest, this policy in practice serves the interests of external actors who do not want the integration of the Western Balkans into the EU. The delay creates a vacuum that can easily be filled by geopolitical influences outside the European sphere. This places North Macedonia at strategic risk – the country loses time, trust, and economic opportunities while neighboring states move forward. 

Bulgaria’s Position – A Matter of Principle, Not a Veto
We all remember very well that when Greece was defending its historical rights in its dispute with the Republic of North Macedonia, European representatives unanimously nodded in agreement, endorsing Greece’s position. This is the place to remind them that Bulgaria also has historical rights, and these are no less significant for Europe’s cultural heritage. The position of Bulgaria is often portrayed as “blocking,” but in essence it is based on already agreed conditions. In this sense, it is not about a unilateral veto, but about insisting on the fulfillment of commitments. Lifting the veto without real progress would mean compromising fundamental EU principles – something that would have long-term negative consequences not only for bilateral relations but also for the Union itself.

The current policy of North Macedonia appears paradoxical: instead of accelerating European integration, it leads to its delay. Instead of building trust, it contributes to its erosion. In this context, the historical perspective presented by Ivan Mihailov in his memoirs is also indicative. In them, he consistently defends the thesis that the cultural and educational development of Macedonia in the 19th and early 20th centuries is inseparably linked to the Bulgarian spiritual tradition – through schools, church struggles, and literary activity. Mihailov emphasizes that Bulgarian self-awareness was a leading factor in shaping modern identity in the region, particularly within the framework of the Bulgarian Exarchate and its educational network.

This historical reality cannot be ignored or distorted without consequences – either academically or politically. The refusal to recognize the diversity of identities, including the Bulgarian one, is not merely a dispute about the past, but an obstacle to building trust in the present. If Skopje genuinely seeks membership in the European Union, the path is clear: fulfillment of commitments, guaranteeing the rights of all citizens, and accepting historical facts as a foundation for a shared European future – not as a tool for political confrontation.

From border surveillance to protecting critical infrastructure, unmanned systems—especially drones—are reshaping how the European Union (EU) responds to threats. These robotic systems offer enhanced efficiency, real-time intelligence, and operational flexibility, making them indispensable for modern security frameworks.

Robotics in Border Security
One of the most prominent applications of robotics in Europe is in border security. Given the EU’s vast and diverse external borders, securing them effectively presents a challenge that traditional methods alone cannot fully address. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), or drones, have proven to be game-changers in monitoring land and maritime borders.
For instance, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) has increasingly deployed drones to patrol the Mediterranean Sea, a critical route for migration and potential security threats. These UAVs provide live surveillance, detecting illegal border crossings, human trafficking, and smuggling operations. One notable example is the use of long-endurance drones, such as the Heron and the Predator, which can monitor vast areas for extended periods, relaying high-resolution images and data to border control centers. By integrating artificial intelligence (AI), these drones can analyze movement patterns and identify suspicious activities, allowing border forces to respond proactively.
Similarly, terrestrial and underwater robotics are used to secure borders. Ground robots equipped with thermal imaging cameras and sensors can patrol high-risk areas along land borders, detecting unauthorized movements even in harsh conditions. Autonomous underwater drones are also being developed to monitor subsea activities, including illegal fishing, smuggling, or sabotage attempts on undersea infrastructure.

Protecting Critical Infrastructure
Robotics also plays a vital role in securing critical infrastructure across the EU, including power plants, transportation networks, telecommunications facilities, and water supplies. As threats from cyberattacks, sabotage, and terrorism increase, robotics provides an additional layer of security to protect these essential assets.
Drones are extensively used for inspecting energy infrastructure such as power grids, oil refineries, and offshore wind farms. For example, high-tech drones equipped with infrared sensors can detect potential damage to power lines or pipelines, allowing for rapid maintenance and preventing large-scale failures. In nuclear power plants, robotic systems perform routine inspections in hazardous areas, reducing risks for human workers.
Airports and seaports, as critical nodes of transportation and trade, also benefit from robotic surveillance. AI-powered drones patrol runways, detecting foreign objects that could endanger aircraft, while underwater drones inspect port facilities for hidden explosives or contraband. Automated security robots are increasingly deployed in these locations to complement human guards, using facial recognition and motion detection to identify potential threats. 

The Future of Robotics in European Security
As robotics continues to evolve, its role in European security will expand further. The integration of AI and machine learning into robotic systems will enhance their decision-making capabilities, enabling them to autonomously assess and respond to threats. Swarm drone technology—where multiple drones collaborate in surveillance and response missions—could revolutionize border security and infrastructure protection.
Moreover, robotic systems are increasingly being used in counter-terrorism operations, explosive ordnance disposal, and cyber-defense. With continued investment in research and development, Europe is likely to see even more advanced robotics solutions that enhance security while reducing human risk.

In today’s rapidly changing security environment, robotics has become an indispensable tool for safeguarding Europe’s borders and critical infrastructure. Drones and other autonomous systems provide unparalleled surveillance, rapid response capabilities, and operational efficiency, making them a key component of modern security strategies. As the EU faces new and emerging threats, the continued advancement and deployment of robotic technologies will be essential in ensuring safety, stability, and resilience across the continent.

The Opportunity to Learn from Europe’s Cultural Wealth

 Europe’s cultural heritage is an unparalleled resource for education and enrichment. Its vast history, encompassing both  triumphs and challenges, offers valuable lessons on coexistence, resilience, and innovation. By actively engaging in cultural dialogue, Europeans can rediscover their common roots while also appreciating the diversity that defines the continent.

Despite this tremendous heritage, many elements of European culture remain largely unknown, even to Europeans themselves. While certain cultural icons dominate global discourse, other equally remarkable aspects of European civilization are often overlooked by the mainstream media. For example, while figures such as Leonardo da Vinci and Beethoven are celebrated worldwide, the works of lesser-known geniuses such as Czech composer Bedřich Smetana or Romanian sculptor Constantin Brunkus remain underappreciated. Similarly, the philosophical contributions of thinkers such as the Italian Giordano Bruno, the Andalusian philosopher Averoes or the Bulgarian philosopher Peter Dunov have enriched European thought with their invaluable ideas and messages, but their influence is rarely discussed outside academic circles.

Europe’s ancient history also holds remarkable yet underexplored treasures. The prehistoric megalithic temples of Malta, built over a thousand years before Stonehenge, remain a mystery to many. The advanced Minoan civilization of Crete, which flourished long before classical Greece, is often overshadowed in history books. Even in more recent centuries, the diverse cultural and linguistic traditions of regions such as the Basque Country, the Caucasus, or the Carpathians remain underrepresented in mainstream European narratives.

By bringing these lesser-known cultural gems into the public consciousness, Europe can foster a richer and more inclusive understanding of its past. Cultural dialogue allows individuals to move beyond national narratives and embrace a broader perspective, one that acknowledges the diversity and depth of European civilization.

Strengthening Mutual Understanding and Cooperation

Cultural dialogue is a catalyst for building trust among nations and communities. In times of political and economic uncertainty, reinforcing cultural bonds can provide a sense of stability and continuity. When people understand each other’s histories, traditions, and values, they are more likely to work together in harmony.

Intercultural initiatives—such as student exchange programs, cultural festivals, and museum collaborations—help create direct human connections. These interactions make European culture tangible and personal, turning abstract ideals of unity into lived experiences. By engaging with the cultural heritage of different regions, citizens cultivate empathy and develop a sense of belonging that transcends national borders.

Cultural dialogue is also crucial in addressing contemporary challenges, from migration to social integration. Europe has always been a melting pot of influences, and understanding this dynamic history can help societies become more adaptable and welcoming. Toward a Shared European Identity 

The concept of a shared European identity does not mean erasing national identities. Rather, it emphasizes the interconnectedness of European cultures and the common values that unite them—freedom, democracy, human rights, and artistic expression. By reinforcing cultural dialogue, Europeans can cultivate a collective consciousness that embraces both unity and diversity.

Institutions such as the European Union and UNESCO play a vital role in promoting cultural cooperation. However, grassroots efforts are equally important. Encouraging local communities to engage in cultural exchange, supporting artists and intellectuals in cross-border collaborations, and integrating cultural education into schools can strengthen the cultural fabric of Europe.

Reinforcing the culture dialogue in Europe is not just a necessity—it is an opportunity. It allows Europeans to reconnect with their rich heritage, foster mutual understanding, and build a stronger, more cohesive continent. In an age where divisions can easily take root, culture remains a powerful force for unity. By embracing dialogue and cooperation, Europe can preserve its diverse legacy while shaping a future based on shared values and collective identity.

Drones and remotely operated vehicles can navigate hazardous environments, assess damage, and locate survivors more quickly and safely than traditional methods. This use of robotics ensures a swifter response, minimizing risks to human responders and maximizing the effectiveness of rescue operations.
Especially relevant in the context of global health crises, robotics is playing a pivotal role in infection prevention and control. Robots equipped with UV-C lights or disinfectant sprayers can autonomously sanitize hospital rooms and public spaces, reducing the risk of healthcare-associated infections and contributing to overall public health.

Fundaments of Leadership (online seminar)

        The Organization of European Integration (ORFEI e.V.) renews its active work in communicating important topics in the fields of culture, science and economy as an important prerequisite for the sustainable development of modern society.
Sharing the concept that modern Leadership should be built through the implementation of an adequate business culture, access to everyone’s knowledge and an active exchange of information, our programme will now include online seminars, open lectures and talks on topics conducive to cultural integration in Europe and the principles of effective governance.

       The new type of leaders are called to introduce from the very beginning the right soil, i.e. Business Culture, in which to sprout and bear fruit the values and vision of success they have visited. It is not always necessary that the Leader is a Manager, but it is crucial that the Manager acquires the qualities and skills of a Leader!

      Because the management of any organization, company or country (and at all levels) should not be an arbitrary set of administrative functions. No matter what the industry, size or experience of an organisation, at the heart of its success should be a proper framework in which all the components for ultimate success are rigorously defined.

       The seminar is free of charge and suitable for students and young professionals whose professional goals and responsibilities include the need to acquire additional knowledge in the field of management.

We all ask ourselves why this disaster happened. Unknown are the ways of the Lord, as we know, but we humans are personally responsible for whether we follow the Light or the darkness. Perhaps that is the great test today – to determine, according to our mind and heart, which path to take. “By their fruit you will recognize them.” the Savior advises us.
